Birth time rectification, also called birth time correction, is how you work out a birth time that was never written down accurately. Rather than trust a rounded-off hospital time or someone's memory, we compare many possible birth times against the events that have already happened in your life, and keep the ones that fit.

Yes, that is the case it is built for. You give the widest window you are sure the birth falls inside, even if that is a few hours, and we narrow it from there using your life events.

Ask for the edges of the day rather than the clock. Was it light outside? Before or after a meal? Had the doctor already gone home? People keep the shape of a day long after the number is gone, and an answer like before lunch is worth more here than a confident guess at 6:30 that turns out to be wrong by an hour.

Not at all. Many certificates record only the date, and plenty of the ones that do carry a time have rounded it to the nearest hour. A rounded time is still a guess, so we treat it as a starting window rather than as a fact.

Partly. Most planetary positions by sign are set by the date alone, so a general reading survives. The Moon is the exception: it changes sign every two and a half days, so even your janma rashi can be undecided on your birth date. What you lose outright is the ascendant, the house each planet falls in, the navamsa and every dasha date, which is most of what people come to a kundli for.

Because the date tells you where the planets were, and only the time tells you where you were standing under them. The Earth turns a full 360 degrees a day, so the ascendant moves about one degree every four minutes. That single number sets which sign is rising, where the twelve house boundaries fall, and the entire Vimshottari dasha sequence. Everything a chart says about timing is downstream of it, which is why an exact birth time matters more in astrology than the date most people think is the important part.

You cannot read it off the date, because the rising sign, called the lagna or ascendant in Vedic astrology, changes roughly every two hours. A birth day covers all twelve of them. If you know the part of the day you were born you can narrow it to two or three possible rising signs, and if you know nothing at all, matching your dated life events against each possible time is the way to work out which one it is.

Birth time correction is the same job. Bracket the time you were given rather than trusting it: if the certificate says 16:10, enter a range around it, say 15:40 to 16:40. If your events favour times near the recorded one, that is a point in its favour. If they do not, you get a window that fits them better, and you can see which events disagreed.

Not in the usual sense. A calculator takes a time you already have and draws the chart, which is what our kundli page does. Mangal dosha, yes, and more than most people expect. It is counted in houses from the lagna, and the lagna changes sign roughly every two hours, so an hour of uncertainty can create the dosha or remove it. Guna Milan is steadier because it reads the nakshatra and the moon sign rather than houses, but the Moon crosses a nakshatra in about a day, so a birth near a boundary can move Yoni, Gana, Nadi and Tara together, which is 21 of the 36 points.

You get a best estimate with a window around it, not a single stamped minute. A timed event like a documented accident or a wedding held at a known hour can tighten that window to a few minutes. Vague dates leave it wider, and the result tells you so.
